We tell ourselves that we exist within a coherent unit, a coherent unit that we then call a self. This is how we form an "I" for ourselves, the central control that exists inside of our psyche. Step to it! For every decision you make with that "I" society will proclaim your responsibility, because that is you, right? That's what you've been told. But is it really?
There's a tangle of thoughts and emotions inside all of us, a mess of memories and desires that we try to make sense of. And out of that mess, we create this idea of a self, a coherent unit that we can understand and control.
Maybe we're just a collection of thoughts and emotions, constantly changing and never really settling on anything. Maybe there is no coherent "I" that we can control. Maybe we're just drifting along, carried by the currents of our own minds from the external inputs we surround ourselves with.
