I think a lot of it does come to language use in some regards and I may have misspoken in some areas given the "free-flowing" format I opt for in podcast episodes.

I would argue...that by opting into society, which is inevitable in many regards, we opt into an embrace of a tether. Thus, it becomes about the tethers we choose and can make ourselves aware of.
I agree on your Harris point...that is not the thing she is talking about. I can honestly say that I've experienced that connection in which Harris is referring. However, if I remember right...I'm talking about how we sometimes to quickly embrace a new tether, that was my intention with the church example. I would not consider the tether of a church a good tether.
My point is also that in some sense....an illusion is always partially true. Thus, I find it difficult to call it a lie.
I'm actually not a big fan of the interviewer of Harris...he commonly comes across as uninterested and unengaged. I'm honestly baffled by how big his podcast is.
Yes...I'm definitely dedicated to the concept of the self with the continuous deconstruction and reconstruction of the concept. I see the self as a narrative and important tool for navigating and enjoying life.
I appreciate your thoughtful comment!
